This morning I went to Alemeda Central, first stop was the Palacio de Bellas Artes, a concert hall and arts centre. On the second floor of this art deco building are huge murals
Next stop was the Diego Rivera museum, and the mural on the wall in Guadalajara I liked so much, the original is here, along with some other lovely stuff. Mexico city is full of culture, is has 151 officially recognised museums.
I took photos of stuff I liked as I walked back to the hotel. One of the distinctive things
about this city is the constant sound of music, people dressed in a uniform stand on the pavements all over the city turning the handle of a box that plays music, a Harmonipan. According to the local chap I spoke to this is their only means of income, they work in pairs, one has a hat asking for money, the other turns the handle of this ‘music box on one leg’. As the sound of one music boxs fade another one can be heard. Both women and men do this, and this is one of them.
Tonight I went to the Teatro de la Ciudad to see the Ballet Folklorico de Mexico, it was one of the best shows I’ve seen, completely brilliant, no photos of the show, obviously, the theatre is beautiful.
